63rd Primetime Emmy Award:Winners and highlights from TV's big night!

The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards were held Sunday night at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, with Glee's Jane Lynch serving as host for the ceremony. Here are the highlights and winners from the television kudo-fest.

•The opening act featured Leonard Nimoy (pinch-hitting for Alec Baldwin) as the president of TV welcoming host Jane Lynch. This led to a musical number based in an apartment building where all television shows live. Although celebrating television, the number lacked in wit of the last few openers.

•Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel presented for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy series. The award went to Julie Bowen for Modern Family.

•Juliana Margulies presented the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy series. Ty Burrell received the honor and spoke of his departed father in his acceptance speech.

•After a video segment with Ricky Gervais, the award for Best Directing went to Michael Spiller forModern Family. He made a great "gotta fix that step joke" that no one in the audience seemed to get.

•The Writing award for Comedy was presented by Wil Arnett and Zooey Deschanel. The writing for the patter was not good. The award went to Steven Levitan and Jeffrey Richman for theModern Family episode "Caught in the Act." It's looking like a sweep for Modern Family this year.

•After a zing about this being the Modern Family awards, Jane Lynch invited Charlie Sheen to the stage to present for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. Before reading the nominations, he wished his former cast and crew nothing but the best for the upcoming season. No zinger or punchline. Good for him. The award went to Jim Parsons for The Big Bang Theory, his second win in a row.

•As Rob Lowe and Sofia Vergara read the nominees for Best Actress in a Comedy, the women ran to the stage for a Miss America finalist moment. The tiara and Emmy went to Mike & Mollystar Melissa McCarthy.

•Characters doing The Office-style talking head interviews complaining about their jobs. Creed and Jesse from Breaking Bad having a business relationship is brilliant.

•Reality and Variety have been lumped together – otherwise known as the entire TVLatest.com recap and liveblog slate. Kaley Cuoco and David Spade presented for Best Competitive Reality Show to The Amazing Race. This was followed by the award for Best Writing in a Variety/Music/Comedy Series given to The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

•Lonely Island from Saturday Night Live, joined by Michael Bolton, Akon, Maya Rudolph and others, presented a medley of their songs. William H. Macy found himself freaked.

•Don Roy King won for Directing Saturday Night Live.

•Outstanding Variety/Music/Comedy Series, presented by Scott Caan and Anna Paquin, went toThe Daily Show with Jon Stewart. This is the ninth year in a row that the program has won this award.

•Jon Cryer and Ashton Kutcher presented the award for Outstanding Writing for a Drama series. The award went to Friday Night Lights. They then presented Outstanding Supporting Actress for a Drama, which went to Margo Martindale for Justified. This was her first nomination and win.

•Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series went to Martin Scorcese, who directed the pilot of HBO's Boardwalk Empire. This is the veteran film director's first Emmy win.

•Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series went to Peter Dinklage for his work on Game of Thrones. This was his first nomination and win, a continuing theme in the drama categories.

•Katie Holmes and Bryan Cranston presented the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. The award went to Julianna Margulies for The Good Wife.

•Drew Barrymore and the cast of the new Charlie's Angels presented the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. With Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston ineligible, the field was wide open. The Emmy went to Kyle Chandler for his work on Friday Night Lights.

Downton Abbey won Awards for writing, directing and Supporting Actress for a Miniseries. Barry Pepper of The Kennedys won for Lead Actor in a Miniseries. Guy Pearce won for Best Supporting Actor and Kate Winslet won for Best Lead Actress for Mildred Pierce.
