'J. Edgar' premiere

Leonardo DiCaprio helped kick off the AFI Fest on Thursday night with the debut of his new drama, "J. Edgar." DiCaprio stars as FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover in the film about the man's private life and public image.

“J. Edgar,” Clint Eastwood’s biopic about controversial FBI director, premiered Thursday at the AFI Film Festival in Hollywood.
On Wednesday, audiences will get to see Leonardo DiCaprio transform into Hoover both as a young and old man. The latter required a quite impressive transformation through makeup. In an early review, the Hollywood Reporter’s Todd McCarthy calls the actor’s performance “vigorous, capable” and “one that carries the film and breathes new life into the old tradition of plain real folk achieving retroactive allure by being played by attractive stars.”
We’ll have more coverage of “J. Edgar” coming up to its release Wednesday. Watch photos from the red carpet below.
