DeGeneres received the 2,477th star which was unveiled at a late-morning event held in front of the W Hollywood Hotel on the popular stretch of street.
The honor was bestowed six days before the broadcasting of the 10th season of DeGeneres' signature talk show "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," which has brought her six Daytime Emmy Awards as outstanding talk show. The nationally syndicated afternoon talk show, premiering in 2003, has won a total of 32 Daytime Emmy Awards by 2011.
A stand-up comedienne at small clubs, DeGeneres saw her popularity soared in the 1980s. In 1986, she made the history by appearing onscreen for a chat with host Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show. She launched her acting career in 1989 by playing a receptionist on the Fox comedy "Open House," and appeared in more than 40 television shows and films. She also received four nods for Primetime Emmys as outstanding lead actress in a comedy series for starring in 1994 ABC sitcom "There Friends of Mine" which was renamed to "Ellen" in second season. DeGeneres has won 13 Emmys and a number of other awards.
DeGeneres also was a judge on Fox singing contest show "American Idol" during the 2010 season.
She was named by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as a Special Envoy for Global AIDS Awareness in November, 2011.
