Meryl Streep, who currently stars as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady, will receive an Honorary Golden Bear for her career at the Berlin Film Festival in February.
According to Variety, the 62-year-old actress will be presented the award on Feb. 14, when The Iron Lady will be screened at the festival.
The award is likely to boost Oscar buzz surrounding her performance in the film, which had a limited release in American theaters over the New Year’s weekend. If she is nominated, it will be her record 17th nomination, according to The Telegraph.
In a statement released on Monday, festival director Dieter Kosslick praised Streep for her versatility in dramatic and comedic roles, according to CBC News. The festival will also honor her by screening several of her past films, like Kramer vs. Kramer, which won the 1979 Best Picture Oscar, Sophie’s Choice, Out of Africa, The Bridges of Madison County and A Prairie Home Companion.
Streep was last nominated for an Oscar for her leading role in 2010’s Julie and Julia. She has only won an Oscar twice, first for her supporting role in Kramer vs. Kramer. She won her only Best Actress Oscar for Sophie’s Choice.
According to The Guardian, the festival has also extended an invitation to jailed Iranian film-maker Jafar Panahi. Last year, they invited him as a jury member, but he was unable to attend. For this year’s festival, Panahi is invited as an “honored guest.”
